This Dorcus is no dork. He has thick jaws but also thin feelers on the outside and inside. Underneath, he has a brown velvet-like beard that helps him get food in his mouth. Since all frames from BugInABox.com have glass on both sides, you can see this kind of cool stuff. His jaws are over one inch long and almost two inches wide. He measures approximately 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide, tip to tip, and comes in a frame 6 inches tall and 5 inches wide. Order the optional black frame with this one, see the button "Why Our Frames Are Better".
At the end of his spiny legs are sharp double-hooks that stick into anything. Just behind the head is a matte black thorax, followed by a shiny, reflective black abdomen. There he has thick outer wings, but you'll be surprised to also see what's underneath: very thin, fragile wings he can use for flying. Even today these semi-transparent wings are very oily. They have two sections, with the last one-half inch folding but also twisting back up to meet the rest of the wing. Both sections fit neatly under the hard outer wing, and can only do so because the soft stomach under the top wing collapses to accommodate them. Looks great in a black frame.
